Cables

3P certification of communication cables is always carried out as a qualification of the full production line including approval of product, production line and quality assurance. The qualification activity in

Trail

  • A first time qualification testing of cable from two different reels which are supplied for testing at 3P by the manufacturer. 3P also carries out a factory inspection to assure that production facilities, quality assurance, testing facilities and extent of internal testing may secure a constant, high quality production.
  • Regular follow-up testing of samples of cable selected by 3P during inspection visits to the production site of the manufacturer. The selected and marked cable reels are supplied for testing at 3P by the manufacturer. The inspection visits which also include new evaluation of production facilities, quality assurance, testing facilities and extent of internal testing to conclude that the production conditions are basically unchanged. The follow-up testing is carried out every 6 months.

Qualification status

Status of qualifications are indicated by colours. The following colours are applied for validity of full production line qualifications of cables, connecting hardware and patch cords (colour índications are different for capability approvals of connecting hardware and permanent links & channels):

Green: Performance is continuously verified. Maintenance activities include both product testing at 3P and factory inspection every 6 months.

Blue: Performance is continuously verified. Maintenance activities include regular product testing at 3P, but factory inspection is not presently carried out.

Yellow: Cable is 3P qualified, but has not passed a scheduled maintenance activity.

Red: Cable is not 3P qualified. 3P does not offer market support in case of cable performance problems.

Both green, blue and yellow marked cable qualifications are having full 3P market support in case of queries. For yellow marked qualifications actions are being taken by 3P to upgrade to green as soon as possible.

Safety of Cables

Safety of cables is a key issue for producers and users of cabling, both with respect to personal safety and to equipment protection (corrosion) in case of fire.

Presently the safety issue only concerns cables, but in the future 3P believes that also connecting hardware will be the target of the safety regulations.

3P Support

3P will be available for the market in case of inquiries about 3P certified products.

Market support includes verification of validity of certifications, identification of certified products and confirmation of general performance data.

No detailed test data or reports can, however, be released. This restricted nature of test reports is necessary because they will often contain confidential information about production equipment, quality assurance organisation, manufacturing details, etc.

In the unlikely case that failing performance is claimed for a 3P qualified component the problem will be fully investigated. If a problem is confirmed any necessary actions will be taken by 3P and the producer in question in order to secure end user confidence in 3P certified components.

Validity of qualifications

Validity period for qualifications is max. 8 months after qualification or latest maintenance of qualification activity.

Requirements verified by 3P Qualifications

3P covers both ISO/IEC, IEC, CENELEC and TIA/EIA requirements in our certifications in order to be sure that the 3P certifications always are valid world wide. Worst case requirements of the different families of standards are always covered.
