Qualification of Connecting Hardware: At a Glance

Full Production Line Qualification of Connecting Hardware

Certification Process

1) Send production samples
2) Testing and evaluation
3) Factory inspection and evaluation
4) Documentation

Samples to be supplied:

Production samples: 5 for each individual circuit design

One "type" of connecting hardware can cover a large number of components with different port numbers, housings, etc. Only if circuit design or connector interfaces are changed the component or circuit in question is considered a new "type" requiring individual qualification.

Assembly instructions must be provided.

Test programme

Electrical performance:
Return loss, attenuation, NEXT, FEXT, LCL, DC resistance, Insulation resistance, Dielectric strength, current carrying capacity, EMC, transfer impedance

Testing conditions:
Plugs covering a full range of de-embedded values

The factory inspection:

The factory inspection will take place over one or two days, during which we evaluate the QA system:
1) We evaluate the Quality Manual
2) We inspect the production line
3) We evaluate internal test results

Usually there will be time left over during the inspection to have a discussion of general points, e.g. standardisation, market development, test methods, etc.

Maintenance of Qualification

One (1) annual follow-up factory inspection will be required each year to maintain a full production line qualification. For each qualified type, samples will be selected during the inspection for testing at 3P.
